Singaporean helping Singaporean

Below is an extract of a letter by a Steven Sum stationed in Suzhou, China. Having heard the plight of Sinkies here, he has made a job offer for a Singaporean to work with him. Salary reasonable and accommodation provided. Here is part of his brief posted in Gibert’s Support site for the unemployed and underemployed.

I work for a British company in China , in Suzhou to be exact.

We are looking for a Laboratory Engineer (designate lab supervisor).

I can’t offer much as this job was designed for a Malaysian (mainly due to cost factor) but I thought why not help my Singaporean brothers who may need a job.

If anyone who is willing to accept a monthly salary of around 15k rmb (~ S$3k) and willing to relocate to Suzhou China , I am interested.

Apartment for single accommodation will be provided. We will also provide 2 return air-tickets from Shanghai to Singapore for each calendar year worked.

Annual leave is 15 days on top of Chinese National holidays which is 12 days now.

I need a diploma holder from Mechanical, manufacturing, production engineering or equivalent.

Work is straight forward. Mainly to perform laboratory testing (usually mechanical testing) of Personal Protective Equipment to international standards (e.g. EN, ASTM, etc….)

Training will be provided until qualification to test is obtained by the employee.

The person must read and write in English. Must speak Chinese and moderately able to read/write in Chinese.

If you know of someone who might be interested, please ask him to write to me with full CV and expected salary

Thank you.

With best regards,

Steven Sum

The best part is that training will be provided. In Singapore, the employers are looking for instant trees. Did they know that they can train their new hires on the job? Or must the applicant be fully trained to fit the job or else they will look to the world for someone that will fit?

Thank you Steven Sum.

RB, I think that probably explained why the finance industry is dominated by FT Indian.

I think many jobless Sinkie PMEs do not like to relocate and be away from their families. Or working in an alien environment. Sometimes their fears may be justified.

And a S$3000 pm salary for a straightforward job in China? That's too good to be true for a PRC in China. And even in Sinkieland. So why didn't they get a PRC from the billions of PRCs?

So Sinkies better look carefully at the fine print for the T & C.

@10:27

Here Steven Sum is helping only one Singaporean to relocate to Suzhou. In a certain international bank, almost whole departments are staffed by nationalities of one country. This can only happen when lax immigration and man power rules are in place. The PRC will never allow this to happen. Out of the total number of employees in a company, you can be sure that 90% are PRCs.

@10:29

S$3000 pm. for relocating to Suzhou with all its attendant disadvantages of being away from familiar surroundings and family is nothing. You should see some of the expatriate salaries that are paid to Western executives.

Yes, there are millions of PRC that would take this job. Only a handful however are truly proficient in the English language and if they are, are already gainfully employed in the top echelon of western companies. The Chinese has a phobia about the English language. They are just too scared to practise it although probably proficient. Can you imagine that a top 6 star hotel in Shanghai cannot even employ enough front office staff who are truly proficient and fluent in the language? And proficiency in the English language is a must according to Steven's job specs.

Steven Sum should be given a medal at our national day medal awards instead of those "jiat liao bee" (useless) residents' committee members.

May there be more Steven Sum coming forward. Singaporeans can only depend on fellow Singaporeans to help them. No one else.

There is a problem in Singaporean engineer as well. They hop job, and that make manager balk about hiring Singaporean engineer.

Why Singaporean engineer hop?

Reason is entry level engineer job is too low, can go as low as 2400 today. And wage increase is 4% a year, lesser than inflation, if you are lucky, 0% in many companies.

No students want to study engineering today.

Today, NUS/NTU EEE is the biggest dumping ground. I remember we used to mock arts fac, as lazy and party animal. Today engineers are the biggest despise in Singapore. Singapore NUS/NTU EEE is the only university in the planet of low prestige.

Elsewhere the EEE of any school has high prestige.

I do not know if PAP knew their mistake. I bet they have not.

Veritas said...

Another problem is many elite IT/ science jobs are taken by FT. In NTU during the 90s, 99% of post grads are FT.

NTU/NUS is the only school whereby the teacher despise their own students. They are the only school where teacher hate the student very much.

There are so many FT post grad who went oversea after graduation, often bad mouthing the NTU/NUS system.

They cannot comprehend whey Singapore has deprive her sons and daughter of education, while many FT got post grad and say bye bye.

And in banking sector, FT Indians play casteist and racist card.

PAP is naive to think that everyone in the world is so tolerant and colorblind like Singaporeans. If this is the case, there will not be any sectarian conflict.

Singaporeans have been feed back again and again. What we get from PAP is that, we are told we are stupid and lazy.

This government must go.

Many of our problem cannot be solved by cosmetic fixes. We need an overhaul of the system. We got all sorts of irrational system because we are keeping LKYism on life support. It should dead long time ago.

Our system is breaking down. We are here because LKY practice radical capitalism. He is mad. If we continues his way, even if we are not destroyed, we will become like India.

We have already a fledging caste system.

Communism will save us. I will not want to elaborate more.

MS will share the PAP's philosophy of hiring foreigners. Foreigners are the best and they play fair and are deserving of the jobs they got. Sinkies no good.

In future Singapore got to cope with many well educated but difficult to find a suitable jobs when they grow older, nothing wrong with mastering a trade, in fact quite a few earlier with little qualification own five room flat and cars?

Ain't that the fucking truth. Just look at how Singaporeans treat their maids, then you know how many of them run their companies.

As I said before: *typical* Singaporean mentality:

Ai pi, ai chi, ai tua liap ni

"Singaporeans can only depend on fellow Singaporeans to help them."

Cannot say like that lah.
PAPigs are also Singaporeans.
Although they are of the traitor branch of the Singaporean tree.

Dear Sir,

You may like to revise history to better your understanding of humanity, specifically about Race.

India is not Persia which You admire very much. You sing praises about the Persians but sadly they were history for a long time. India or rather the Indians exist for more than 5000 years and is getting better by year.
Not only Indians are at every corners of the World; Indians are helping to better the World wherever they are. In Europe, Americas and anywhere, Indians are contributing in every aspects of the Human World.

Indians are the most enlightened in spirituality as well as in the Sciences. China embraced Indian Enlightenment for nearly 2600 years in Buddhism and Martial Arts. The same goes to the other continents.

The high tech and commercial industries around the World have all got Indians to help them to develop and progress. Sin is one greatly help by Indians in the Banking and Finance Sector. Sinkies should appreciate the great contributions bythe Indian National.

India as it is now as it was before has made great contributions to the wellbeings of humanity irrespective of race and ethnicity. It will, as usual, help to make the World a better place for all and It will play a leading role to do so.

It will not be the least surprising if India becomes the Next most powerful nation in the coming years. It deserves to be.

Sinkies help Sinkies and it is so typical of their mentality.
Learn from the Indians and help everybody around You. Enlighten the folks everywhere to be better humans no matter their race and culture.
There are much that Sinkies should learn from more enlightened people.

Veritas July 01, 2013 11:04 am

Not just today lah. But decades ago happened already.

And those who cannot enter other faculties will end up in engineering, and of course not their choice lah. Engineering is somewhat a dumping ground also partly because the universities has a big quota for engineering students, unlike medicine.

And a company can even give a job title or promote someone without a degree as engineer.

Can you call someone a doctor if he does not have a medical degree? Even foreign doctors also must have medical degree, even if it is from their 3rd world university.

So engineers in Sinikieland is really not a big deal profession lah.

In fact a lot of people with engineering degrees don't even practice as an engineer in their whole career! And for reasons as given by Veritas.

India is a shit hole. No other country is like India. India has problem like rape, dowry killing, caste-ism, racism, low IQ prevalency, separatism...etc.

Even Buddhism Chinese import is problematic, but we sanitize it. Look at Tibetan Buddhism, sexual exploitation is very prevalent.

Everywhere India go, company run into shit. Before Citi and Deutsche Bank is good, after they got Indian CEO, they are shit.

Qualcomm is today best IC company to work.

I predict Qualcomm will be shit because they hire too many indians. Just watch me.

India is also the biggest terrorist country in the world. She invaded or plan to invade all her neigbours. Goa, Diu, Daman, hyderabad, Sikhim...etc all was swallow up by India.

Indian are shameless to keep accusing China to be aggressive. India is a problem to humanity.

All corporate all infested with alpha type. Indians work well with alpha type. high caste Indians are alpha type.

That is why they climb corporate ladder well. Every boss know who is performing and who is not. They are not stupid.

They just want to exploit beta and omega people.

That is why Singaporeans so easy to bully.
Only know how to work hard and vote PAPigs.

Maybe if we had voted Opposition instead.
Ms Saw would not have been CEO and maybe our MRT would be better maintained.

To make Singapore more efficient, we have to vote Opposition.

Right bro, foreign expatriates with dubious degrees been paid eight to ten k in my spouse construction firm dealing with mrt works. IRAS loved these tax psyers

3 K is ordinary for our Sin expatriate who studied for early a quarter if their life.

The most immediate solution is to help our fellow Singaporeans is to claim back the nation by kicking out the PAP government

From an economic perspective, our countries economic model stagnated after the likes of our late ex-DPMs Goh Keng Swee and Toh Chin Chye retired early from the cabinet in the early eighties.

Since then, other sectors highly encouraged, promoted and invested with tens of billions if not hundreds of billions such as Bio-Medical are mostly foreigners heavy, fireigners-focus and fireigners-centric. Why foreigners and fireigners?

Because with mass foreigners influx, Sinkapooreans become fireigners! Kanna fired lah! Tio bo? Kee two chius and also kee kah if agree? Kns

In economic term, our political system is a monopoly.

In economics, monopolies are known for inefficiencies and poor allocation of resources due to lack of competition.

Monopolies tend to enjoy super normal fat profits, exploitation of consumers to maximise profits via under-production and price discrimination.

Barriers to entry are high and prohibitive.

Monopolies tend to accentuate inequalities, inequitable distribution of income in favour of the rich and legalised "robbing" of the masses of their low and hard-earned incomes.
