The perversion of Nationhood

A state cannot exist without citizens. A state is created by the citizen as a protective umbrella for the common good of a collective citizenry. A state and its citizenry co exist in a symbiotic relationship. One cannot exist without the other. A people without a state become stateless. A country without a citizenry is waiting to be taken over, or a loose or disorganized state will soon be taken over.

The role of a govt is an intermediary between the citizens and the state. A govt in a democratic state is voted by the people as a caretaker of the state and to promote the interests of the citizens. Promoting the interests of residents or non citizens is incidental and can only be pursued by the good grace of the citizens, on the generosity of the citizens. A govt that usurped the power given to it by the people to take care of non citizens and neglect the interests and rights of the citizens has no reason to exist or be supported by the citizens.

Permanent Residents are not citizens and owe no loyalty or responsibility to the state but to themselves. They are fair weather residents and will move to greener pasture when things are not favourable to them. They have no right to vote and be represented in Parliament. They cannot enjoy the same privileges as citizens. Period.

Non residents or transient workers have even lesser rights than PRs. It is pure stupidity to allow non residents and PRs to have the same opportunities in all things, especially in employment opportunities. There could be exceptions for those who are here to contribute extraordinarily to the country and people. Such people, like the tycoons, may even get special privileges in some areas to make their stay worthwhile but not to compromise the well beings of the citizens. One glaring problem is the buying up of properties and high property prices.

Top talents in their respective fields, not joker talents dressed up as talents, can also be welcomed and bestowed with certain privileges. This group is unlikely to be more than 1 or 2% of the foreigners here. The rest are here to benefit themselves more than the state and better enjoy their time here and the hospitality of the state and people, and not to exploit the people.

Discrimination by foreigners against the citizens must be made a crime. It has no place in the country. The govt of the people, by the people must be for the people, must be there to protect the people in its own territory. Neglecting this principle cannot be tolerated. When a govt sees it its responsibility to care more for the foreigners than its citizens, it is a dereliction of duty to the citizens, a perversion of nationhood.

Good luck on that one :-))

On PRs

>> They have no right to vote and be represented in Parliament. They cannot enjoy the same privileges as citizens. Period.

Not true. They pay taxes, which entitles them to all the above. "Tax" is part of the social contract individuals and entities have with the state.

You work, you produce and thus contribute to the commonweal, then you pay taxes, means you fulfill your part in the social contract. The state has to fulfill its obligations to you in return.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: sprouting from your mother's vagina in a territory might confer you certain "rights" as an infant. However as an adult you either contribute to the society or be a bum.

If the PRs are making a contribution, they are entitle to the SAME RIGHTS.

Period.

A state must have economic growth. Or else the state will become poor and backward and even lawless like in some countries. I will not want to be a citizen of such a state.

That's why in Sinkieland, economic growth is the #1 priority and the ends.

Have you heard of "The ends justify the means"?

Even if it means caring more for the foreigners than its citizens.

As long as the means do not carry a backlash, for instance, the strongest opposition is ironically a weak opposition not ready to be govt.

Once there is no backlash, whether the means is a crime, a dereliction of duty, a perversion or whatnot is irrelevant and useless.

Do what you want but don't get caught, especially for extra marital affairs.

Or most important, don't get sacked or voted out.

“If D1 was a just distribution, and people voluntarily moved from it to D2, transferring parts of their shares they were given under D1 (what was it for if not to do something with?), isn't D2 also just? If the people were entitled to dispose of the resources to which they were entitled (under D1), didn't this include their being entitled to give it to, or exchange it with, Wilt Chamberlain? Can anyone else complain on grounds of justice? Each other person already has his legitimate share under D1. Under D1, there is nothing that anyone has that anyone else has a claim of justice against. After someone transfers something to Wilt Chamberlain, third parties still have their legitimate shares; their shares are not changed. By what process could such a transfer among two persons give rise to a legitimate claim of distributive justice on a portion of what was transferred, by a third party who had no claim of justice on any holding of the others before the transfer?”

We are givng top post CEO DBS a state-controlled bank to a foreigner, an outsider !

Is MOM giving priority to India educational credentials over Singaporeans who are graduated from Western countries ?

Piyush Gupta has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, India and an MBA from IIM(Indian Institue of Managemnt), Ahmedabad.

Is there no one in Singapore to do th job ????

If we SINGAPORE CITIZENS have no access whatsoever to exactly how much we have in the Temasek holdings and other reserves then why on earth Temasek approved an OUTSIDER to head a state bank.

Why is WP, and with Low Thia Khiang as leader, the only opposition party able to win elections? Low Thia Khiang highest education level is only a BA in Chinese Studies from NUS.

Why is Chen Show Mao, with more impressive qualifications, only just a member of the WP CEC and holds no appointment in the CEC?

And what do you think of Chen Show Mao's performance in Parliament? I am not surprised if you think he is no better than the many ordinary PAP MPs or even those of his own WP.

So don't be fixated with qualifications, whether it is from India, China or the West.

He must have impressed and also doing a good job, from the perspective of those who hire him or voted him, and not you or your perception of him. Or else why would he be still there or be voted in?

Unfortunately, those who criticise or suffer the most under the PAP do not have the power or to be smart to improve or correct the "wrongs" which they criticise.

Can but not so fast lah. Maybe in 20 or 30 years time things will improve. Or maybe not within your lifetime, if you are old now.

Let's be realistic. If after 48 years, the best Sinkies can have is the WP, how fast can you expect things to improve?

Don't anyhow assume the gahmen's job is to benefit the people hor.

The first emperor of China (Qin Shi Huangdi) has already set the standard for all future Chinese rulers.
It is the citizens' job to benefit and subsidize the gahmen.
So millions of Chinese peasants-citizens died building the Great Wall of China.
For the "greater good" ... "greater good" meaning for the emperor's benefit.

Fortunately, Singaporeans don't have to sacrifice too much for the gahmen except for;
- National Service
- CPF
- Subsidized HDB flats
- Expensive cars that do not include the full safety features found in equivalently priced cars elsewhere in the world

- subsidized medical healthcare
- you can fill in the rest here

Slavery in the USA lasted for nearly 200 years, from 1600s to 1800s.

So don't expect change for the better to come fast.

Ah Nehs are famous for their shake head but yes men mentality. All gov related companies only needs those papaya yes men not intelligent ones who will rebel one day just like the previous appointed one at TH. If you are up there, you rather have someone average in intelligence but submissive than someone intelligent but not submissive.

No gov in this world exists for the people. They only exist in myth or propaganda. They are all there to exploit the people and serve themselves - make them pay tax, pay for their holidays, pay for small crimes like exceed speeding limit but protect big time criminals, drug/human traffickers, tax evaders assets and lifestyles. It sucks big time especially when the legal system is a criminal one that sided the one party.

Voting for opposite party may not mean better for the people but at least there is a 50% chance which is still better than voting for the same party that will continue to screw lives and bring more harm the people.

"Slavery in the USA lasted for nearly 200 years, from 1600s to 1800."

From 1600-1800, there was no democracy in USA.
USA was a colony of England.
And England was a kingdom ruled by kings.
And that's why slavery lasted for 200 years in USA.

We have democracy in Singapore since 1965.
And since 1965, Singaporeans have continued to be voluntary slaves.

Slavery in Singapore will end when Singaporeans stop being deaf, dumb and blind.

Anonymous said...

USA became a democracy in 1788 with George Washington elected as the 1st American President.

And it was only 75 years later, in 1863, under the 16th President Abraham Lincoln, that slavery was abolished.

So you see, slavery still continued for 75 years even under American democracy.

And 75 years is longer than 48 years since 1965, tio bo?

Anonymous said...

Will it take Singaporeans 75 years to learn?

Or are Singaporeans faster learners than Americans?

Anonymous said...

The crux of the problem is severe influx of FT,. which has contributed to the discrimation against Singaporeans, born and bred here, in employment market.

This is bad enough to warrant a study by MOM.

But the fact is the MOM minister is busy defending another ministry.

[Coming down hard on tax evaders]

"Singapore introduces regulations to make it a crime to handle foreign funds that came from tax evasion in other countries.

These anti-banking secrecy rules will likely hit private banking,
but some Singaporeans are hoping it could help reduce some of the tangible and intangible woes that excess money had brought here."

My money is on Chen Show Mao. Why? His impressive enumeration (aka "hard evidence") of achievements -- i.e. solid education, of an obviously smart and highly motivated individual, APPLIED in the real world to achieve HUGE VALUES and ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

Plus he speaks damn well, makes compelling arguments (he doesn't talk shit), and comes across as a genuine guy -- smiling, pleasant, non-confrontational.
