NTUC helping PMEs

‘During the first “Future Leaders Summit” organised by NTUC yesterday (15 Jun) aimed at reaching out to professionals, managers and executives (PMEs), NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Heng Chee How said NTUC will do more to help the PMEs.

This will include providing assistance in skills upgrading, and more seminars and workshops….

He said, “The PMEs would also certainly face challenges at work, both in terms of looking for work, or placement, as well as progression – how they can make good in their respective careers….’

How to help the PMEs when they do not know how? Ask a simple question, why are the foreign and local companies employing foreigners instead of Singaporeans? Definitely the Singaporeans, schooled in the best universities and colleges, some with big city and big corporate experiences, cannot be worst off than those from third world countries even if their qualifications and experience are genuine. All things being equal, it can only mean that whatever training or courses we are giving or are going to give are inferior or not the right thing to give. It is better to send these PMEs for courses in third world countries or get the third world countries to come here and train our first world PMEs on how to find a job, how to qualify and upgrade themselves to make them more marketable. It is so sick to think that this is what our super talents believe in.

This is the reality on the ground, not training for the sake of training as if it is the panacea for employment and getting a good job. The other reality, a very painful one that the govt is still not doing much about it, is that the employment agencies and the foreign companies chose to recruit and employ their own kind. Why don’t our own employment agencies and govt and govt linked companies do the same, employ our own kind? This simple act of positive discrimination for our own citizens will solve all the PME problems. No need to waste time and resources on courses and training.

The assumption that our PMEs are not suitably qualified or lack the skills is false. Yes, our PMEs are being cheated of jobs here.

And the sad part is the local companies, including govt and GLCs are also happily and busily employing foreigners and not Singaporeans. For every foreigner our govt and GLCs employed, one Singaporean missed the boat. It is bull to say that the tens of thousands of Singaporeans are only good to drive taxis.

You want the truth?

This is called wayang lah.

Wayang means being seen to be doing something for Sinkies mah, even if it is just wayang.

If I were PAP, and like so many other things, why would I care so much what is the reality on the ground for Sinkie PMEs?

I will just watch out to ensure that WP remain the strongest opposition. And if got chance, "fix" WP some more to make it less strong.

How's that? Good strategy, tio bo?

Anonymous said...

The most urgent and crucial thing for Sinkies between now and 2016 is to form a stronger and better party than WP or even PAP.

And to be ready to replace the PAP as govt in 2016.

How's that? Tough strategy, tio bo?

Anonymous said...

But why is WP, the strongest opposition party in Sinkieland now, publicly declare it is not even ready to be govt, and its leader has no ambition to be PM?

At least better to say will TRY HARD to be ready by 2016 lah.

Don't even know how to wayang. Chey!

agongkia said...

There is no law here to say that Sinkie must be a PME .

Stop dreaming to be PME forever just becos one is once a PME.
Just sent those PME for training and let them become sookoority guard.Simple solution.

Why do we need to pay a high salary and trouble NTUC for such simple solution.

Sinkies can't handle the truth. That's why they keep on voting for PAP. Serve them right! They deserve to suffer!

The WP is a WAYANG PARTY of the PAP

Training? Who are they trying to kid?

How many PMETs do you believe actually share the views of Mr Heng?

That is the crux of the issue.

The only thing training serves is to promote the happy lie, training will be able to prescribe a solution to what is obviously a systematic and intractable problem.

Training is like prescribing Panadol for stage 4 cancer!

One reason why these people cannot and should NEVER be taken seriously is bc, they seem to believe it is possible to put the cart before the horse and still make progress.

Wonder no more why when Mini Lee says, 'we r all in the same boat.' Everyone burst out in laughter. One day I should upload that clip in YouTube. A town hall full of businessmen laughing at these hollow men who regularly say empty things.

Wither Singapore?

Rb..ntuc has only shown itself to check the growth of the labor movement..look at what it's done since inception..deliberately curtailed wage growth ..colluding with employers to keep workers n their benefits to the basic minimum..not protecting worker by encouraging the growth of foreign talents..why anybody wants to pay union subs is way beyond my understanding..the only people who has benefitted from unions have been all these union leaders, past and present...don't believe? Hehe

Till to date still want to BS and smoking us by hiding away the real problem of unfair competition created due to uncontrolled importing of FT.

The truths has been reviewed, but the truths needs to reached out to more people, help spread the words that we can do without this current administration.

I highly encourage many in the blogging community to dig up on the firms that are offering training services - it is really quite revealing - who the real beneficiaries of this scheme really are.

IMHO, I don't see the average PMET benefiting from this great wayang kulit show.

But never mind, I am sure some idiot who regularly gives closed door speeches in the school of Rajaratnam will say once again, we are all too suspicious and guarded for our good. Either that, or the will just unleash that mad propaganda bitch, Tessa Wong to try to convince us all that the world is flat like a pizza.

Stupid people will always think everyone is stupid and only they are smart.

It was reported in the papers that one angmo was fined $10,000 for spitting at the PC. This angmo was lying on the floor highly intoxicatec and the PC was trying to help him.It transpired that this angmo is a FT employed by Tigerair to edit its inflight magazine. Why was this angmo employed in a job I am sure many of the unemployed PMET can also do.Why can't the NTUC whose chief sits in the PMO get local company to employ singaporean for local jobs?

Can, provided he is not from the PAP.

Maybe after 2016 lah, OK?

Only in this city when training is to downgrade to a lower paying job. This is uniquely Singapore.

And third world talents are better than first world talents. Third world university degrees are better than first world top grade universities like NUS and NTU.

So malu. No, no, no, so stupid.

No lah, it's not stupid.

We want our universities to be top grade what. So let NUS, NTU be top grade lah. Nothing wrong, tio bo?

But we also want graduates to be cheapest and many what. So get those third world graduates lah. Because NUS, NTU don't produce enough graduates and also not cheap what.

So in this way PAP can have the best of both worlds lah. But maybe not for some Sinkies lah.

redbean, as mean spirited and negative as usual:

>>
How to help the PMEs when they do not know how?

Eh, please lah. People are trying to HELP. At least they are DOING SOMETHING, but you -- oh no -- immediate judgement and conviction.

It is clear that the PMETs are not up to the task of COMPETITION -- maybe due to skill sets, maybe due to attitude, maybe due to something else yet uncovered.

The fact is: employers will continue to hire foreigners, and that isn't going to stop anytime soon. They have made it clear: when it come to labour, they what CHOICE and FREEDOM to exert their choice.

>> No need to waste time and resources on courses and training.

I used to have a boss (Arrogant Singaporean) who used to say this. He didn't want to spend ONE CENT on training for his staff, and as a result customers complained about bad service, bad attitude, shoddy products, no support.

As soon as I couldn't take anymore of this fucked up, stingy, I-don't-care-about-my-staff attitude and my incessant complaints -- ineffective -- to change his attitude, I left. Nevermind that he flipped me and my ideas off, he used to say: "If you feel so strongly, you train them lah!!" Less than 2 years later his business collapsed and he lost $2 million.

Come on lah redbean, you claim to have an HR background, so you ought to know the VALUE of training. You know that in today's world you must be constantly training. ON GOING TRAINING BUILDS CONFIDENCE, not by just muttering "positive mental attitude" mantras, but by objectively raising people's aptitude, attitude and levels of MARKETABLE skills.

Many PMETs are also at a low ebb. They are mostly alone, perhaps even ashamed to face their family and friends. Training courses also offer SUPPORT -- 'safe' environments for them to learn with others in the similar situations and mental states.

So if you really want to help (and I have my doubts about that -- you are more interested in pushing your own 'agenda'), redbean, please exhibit some good sense lah.

Many people spurt nonsense like Matilah. Just tell me how many types of training are there.

The type of training that these people are not talking about are mainly job specific training, to train people with new skills to fit a job spec. Train a manager to be a cook, a physiotherapist, a nurse.

And sad to say, many PMEs are traing to downgrade. Soon they will be training highly qualified and experienced PMEs to be counter boys and girls for MacDonald or Burger King, or how to be petrol pump attendance. It is like telling all the oldies to sell their properties and downgrade to a one room flat.

Matilah, can see you what am I saying?

Just to add, if the ang mos so smarty, why their own cunt trees so many defaulting on debts and going bankrupt huh???

Why do many come here to seek employment Under the yellow skins???

NTUC trying to branch out into educational industry? Just another avenue to earn more money and exploit the pme.

virgo48 said...

All these training courses by these so called professionals bull shits lah!!!

created only extra incomes for these "Professionals" by claiming the skill development funds.

Some of them even conducted by their own company's managers.

Some more jack up the fees some more.

MS
Your former boss collapse after 2 years .If he send his staff for training maybe collapse before 1 year.
Training would not cost much to the employers and some even benefit from sending them for training.
Whether one send their staff for training or not,the company contributed SDL every month. Many companies contributed but did not sent their staff for training. Not because of saving cost like you said.
Its manpower constraint that are unable to.
Client will usually complain about workers attitude and no matter how you train one, leopard will never change its spot.
Go Geylang and you think you can get them to serve you better after training and give you extra ten minutes with training?
30 minutes mean 30 minutes.Maybe, after you finish within 5 minutes they will just dress up and go.U think training can make them give you extras?

redebean -- claims "experience" in HR, but continues to blatantly flaunt his IGNORANCE and gross lack of concern for those not as fortunate as him.

>> And sad to say, many PMEs are traing to downgrade.

Having a job is better than having NO JOB. Sometimes you need a REALITY CHECK to ram home the idea that perhaps your skills are no longer in demand, as others can do what you do more efficiently (i.e. bang for buck)

So you retrain to "downgrade" to a cook. So what? There is DIGNITY in all honest work. There is NO DIGNITY in remaining jobless just because of your own ARROGANCE, refusal to face reality, take responsibility for your life, play the victim and blame others, go around all day with long face, bringing others down with you.

>> Matilah, can see you what am I saying?

Yes, absolutely. You dislike the fact that people have to "downgrade". You would rather they be unemployed and angry at the government -- never moving on by getting out of their situation.

You are indeed a very reprehensible person -- reckless beyond the point when you're not even AWARE of the potential damage you can do.

MS, you are a sickening asshole. You could not understand what RB is trying to educate you and you start to attack him and call him names.

Seriously, NTUC should know most of their courses are hardly useful in private sectors.

There is big split between private and public sectors.

NTUC should instead "asking" government to give more discount to Singaporeans taking up training.

Anonymous said...

So Matilah, after I exposed you for your insane and heartless comment on the single mother you must paint something on me huh, reprehensible? Look at the mirror mate.

The PMEs are Professionals, Managers, executives, all highly qualified and experienced, what courses are they going to conduct in NTUC, to be better cleaners or security guards?

redbean (grasping at straws)

>> after I exposed you for your insane and heartless comment on the single mother

You are a LIAR redbean. There's nothing to "expose" -- I shared my views quite openly. The mother is A CHILD MURDERER, and according to our laws, she could face the gallows, which IMO she would rightly deserve. Any more doubts from you about my opinion, or are you going to continue LYING?

>> The PMEs are Professionals, Managers, executives, all highly qualified and experienced, what courses are they going to conduct in NTUC, to be better cleaners or security guards?

There you go again looking down on the "lesser jobs" which SOMEONE has to do. How do I know what courses NTUC is going to conduct? If it gets those retrenched people WORKING, at least something positive is achieved.

With their "professional" (so you claim) skills, they might be able to develop themselves to become managers or even entrepreneurs in their new vocations?

Who knows? Anything is possible. It is NO SHAME to lose your job to someone else your boss chooses.

But no, for you it always comes back to "loss of face". By being so fucking NEGATIVE, you make people lose hope, when they should be given hope at the very least to keep their spirits up and to stop falling into the depressing states of "victimhood".

You are a cruel prick. If there is a hell, there's a special place there, waiting for you!

Anonymous said...

Matilah, the PMEs are so happy with your vision of hope. Their lives are going to get better.

And so will the lives of our children. Spent hundreds of thousands to get a degree only to get retraining to lower their expectation.

This must be Matilah's joke of the year.
