Talking cock about meritocracy

Every joker, Sinkie or new Sinkie or non Sinkie, is waving this thing called meritocracy to justify the existence and influx of foreigners into our country. Indeed meritocracy is a pillar in our social economic system, but it must not be taken out of context and spoken in vacuum. There is more to just meritocracy about the people of a country, just like children of a family, there must be a line drawn between us and them, between family and outsiders. Once this line is blurred or removed, meritocracy on its own is treacherous with no other attachments. It becomes hardnosed economics, emotionless, devoid of feelings, ties, attachments, nationhood and other aspirations. Everyone is dispensable if he is not good enough. The concepts of nation, sacrifices, citizenship, NS, defending or dying for a country with little pay or even no pay, will just be degraded to rubbish, irrelevant, stupid and hogwash. It becomes what is the price!

Anyone talking about meritocracy without reference and consideration to the interests of nation and citizens is purely talking cock, talking through his arsehole.

Nationhood, citizenship, the well being of a nation and its people cannot be compromised by simply farting about meritocracy. If meritocracy is the uno factor, then it is rightful to get rid of all the oldies and inepts, the sick and disable, and the unproductive and not so intelligent, those that are not meritocratic.

Any joker talking about meritocracy, please be reminded that this is a country with citizens and the interests of the citizens is top most priority. Meritocracy with no regards to the citizens is as good as survival of the fittest. Let’s be careful in what we are talking about, and know what we are talking about. Meritocracy must also be about citizenship at the same time.

Meritocracy? Would you dump your children for someone more meritocratic because your children are dull, disabled, sick, have Down’s Syndrome or dyslexic or less able?

And make sure we are comparing apple with apple and not apple with potato. The kind of pressure cooker education that our citizens had to go through, the degrees from our world class universities, versus some unknown universities or fake degrees, what kind of meritocracy are these people talking about?

What is so meritocratic about someone with a degree from Kacang Putih University in Timbuctu compares to our graduates from NUS or NTU or SMU or other local govt supported universities? KNN.

If he is into meritocracy, he will put up his son as PM and daughter in law as head of TH and relatives as head of this or that.

the real meritocracy in singapore is spelled married-tocracy.

Our education system requires us to learn our mother tongue, especially Chinese language and we all know that in the past there are many bright student who just sucks in the Chinese language and because of this, they are denied places in our universities.

The rich ones have no problem as they simply ship their kids off to foreign institution from as early as 12 years old. The poor do not have such option, so they inevitably lose out in getting a good education.

Then, what our G does is to allow so many graduates from India and Philippines to come work here. Excuse me, did these people take and pass the Chinese language? If this is not an important factor, then why the heck does the G put so much stress on our children to do Chinese? Do you think that they would have done better if they spent their time on the other subject instead of Chinese?

Then we have the PRCs that do not speak or understand English but are offered places in our JCs and we pay for their English language tuition. On the other hand our Singapore students are denied entry to JCs if they do not do well in English.

Meritocracy? Sounds more like "mang, mang ke se" literally translated as "Go die slowly".

You want our students to compete, remove the need to study mother tongue and if students do well enough to enter JCs without having to use Language as a subject, so be it.

In life, it's not just IQ, EQ is just as important. That's what is happening now, we have all these top 5% or 10% elites think that they have all the brains to rule the country. They have NO HEARTS!!!

The rulers in sin are worse than hitler many times. Most evidently, they are cruel to their own kind.

It should be based on certain percent of the population. Say may be not more than 5%. If the foreigners are at the current level like 30% of the population, then it become unfair to the citizens. PAP must be voted out to teach them a lesson.

Meritocracy is one of the ideas, and practices that make Singapore rock in the most awesome ways.

Too bad you're not a fan.

Maybe you're simply not good enough :-)

P.S.

There are people who think that a rally turnout of ~5000 people is "great".

These same people hate meritocracy.

Small wonder...what, with their standards so bloody LOW!

[Why the White Paper must not fail]

"It spells out measures we must take, regardless of how unpopular they may be.

It lets people know and discuss the challenges ahead.

Actually, it should be renamed the 'White Paper on population survival beyond 2030', as its ultimate success would be judged by its ability to prevent us from leaving behind an uncompetitive, listless population for our descendants beyond 2030.

From this angle, the White Paper must not fail.

With money, it rocks anywhere. However, to rock better, find a better place than a tiny rock.

Ah Hia got to learn to have better taste. The eagle will not choose even the largest tree to nest. The tiger will never choose a barren plot to live. Nor will a frog stays in a well unless it fells into it. Then just too bad no choice. Sg is for those that know little about living.

I think I felt the reverse. Our system requires us to learn English and to receive instruction in English that discriminate children from non-English speaking family big time.

My mother tongue is Hokkien. I need to study math and science in English in primary, at the time when I cannot even construct a sentence, and cannot understand even a single word from my teachers.

I fail like mad. I cannot study. I kana scold stupid, idiot by my teacher countless time. I saw stupid banana excel just because lessons were conducted in their mother tongue. I nearly got kick to monolingual (em3 of the time). Many teacher think I am hopeless.

Am I stupid?

Please banana, don be a champion grumbler. The system favor you.

Funny (actually, very sad) how what once united us as citizens are now a test of whether one is a true blue Singaporean.

Ask those imported table tennis players from China to do the following:
1) Speak English (the lingua franca to unite all the races in Singapore)
2) Recite the Pledge
3) Sing the National Anthem

Getting lap dogs to be incharged of important ministries and getting his son to be PM is that meritocracy? The last person that can talk meritocracy are those from familee. If we are not good enough, it is all the fault of the familee wrongdoing. Most importantly thru restricting us from getting universities degree especially medical, law, it. Only want us to complete basic education because this is UN constitution not because of familee. He is just another greedy, selfish, evil manipulator.

"When Mr Goh Chok Tong became PM in 1991, he introduced the 'asset enhancement' programme.

... PAP’s ‘asset enhancement’ policy does benefit some people, but just not your ordinary S'poreans.

The following groups of people stand to gain the most from this policy:

[Another Whopping Surplus]

"OCBC Treasury is saying S'pore’s FY2012 budget surplus may possibly be four times higher than initial estimate, a whopping $5 billion:

Which explains why the Govt continues to ignore calls to revamp the COE system, and take half-hearted measures to cool the over heated property market.

The surplus could also be attributed to the fact that monies budgeted for 'social welfare' may not be fully dispersed.

Take for instance, the part of the Enhanced Baby Bonus scheme..."

[Martyn See’s observations about the Hong Lim rally]

"Film and theatre director Martyn See has made some very good observations about the Hong Lim rally.

Here I shall paraphrase and expand on them...

1.
The notion of “public protests”, outlawed, tabooed and ridiculed in the preceding decades, took a giant stride into mainstream acceptability.

2.
A culture of political fear made way to a willingness to be photographed and filmed holding placards.

3.
The community was able to monitor itself, to quickly condemn and nullify offensive remarks and sentiments from within.

4.
Dissidents in civil society have gained a fluidity that has made it harder for the State to target individuals in order to isolate them.

In the past, the usual faces dominated the socio-political scene and the govt easily clamped down hard on them, and used the compliant state-controlled media to tarnish them.

Today, there are more social activists and political candidates from diverse backgrounds who are willing to stand up and be counted.

The police detained Ms Lynn Lee for many hours at a stretch in an attempt to extract intelligence from her, but she is unfazed by the event and is determined to continue her work.

Others too, like Dr Vincent Wijeysingha or Alex Au, remain steadfast in the face of political action against them.

As the saying goes, you can trample on the flowers but you can’t stop the spring."

[Can healthcare system keep up with population surge?

"A lot has been said about how our roads and transport system have been overwhelmed by the recent population surge, but I think it is more important to ask whether our healthcare infrastructure can meet the expected demand.

As a doctor, I have found that...

Has the Health Ministry planned for this expected growth?

It takes more than 10 years to train a competent doctor for specialist work in the hospitals.

Yet, the numbers being accepted into the medicine faculty seems not to have increased significantly.

The selection criteria appears to be so difficult that..."

[POPULATION WHITE PAPER]

"THE Population White Paper is unpopular because its projections go against our natural instincts and sentiments ('Positives from the population debate' by Mr Viswa Sadasivan; last Friday).

One good source to revisit is the population projections by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) in September 2011 ('Population will shrink without immigrants'; Sept 8, 2011).

Its study showed how dire our demographic situation would become in future decades if there is insufficient intake of foreigners.

I hope those who can see this big picture help the rest to see it.

When papa talks about meritocracy he is looking at which son is more meritocratic. If the sons are not meritocratic enough, he will be looking at the cousins. If cousins not good enough, he will be looking at his relatives....this is meritocracy, not meritocrazy that is being practised now.

All the unmeritorious losers whining about meritocracy - those too daft not to have chosen to be born into the correct family with the superior meritocratic genes. Sorry, you won't have any sinecures. Or get to play with CPF like monopoly money. You will continue being serfs, with no chance of running TH where you get to appoint your brother-in-law to chair the board of a TLC or where a TLC will fly your relative in an specially outfitted ambulance.
