Pro Sinkie or pro foreigner policies better

The WP proposal put up by Chen Show Mao came under immediate attack by the PAP bench. The WP’s proposal is basically to tap on the big pool of unemployed or underemployed Sinkies to the sum of 1.2m people. These people can go to waste, remain unemployed or underemployed but could be economically productive if they are returned to the workforce. What is so wrong with this? Why ignore them totally?

The PAP’s White Paper is about bringing in more foreigners, diluting the Sinkie element to about 50% by 2030. Between the two proposals, which one is more pro Sinkie and which is more pro foreigner?

Can the WP proposal work, fully, partially, it would mean more Sinkies in the workforce and lesser need to import more foreigners. Why can’t the PAP look into it to see if there are some merits and useful recommendations that can be incorporated into the bigger plan? Why must it be rejected lock, stock and barrel? NG!

Can the PAP proposal be moderated? Is it a no way out option that without the huge influx of foreigners, it cannot work? The foreigner content seems to be the core of the future workforce. And the foreigners are really here to improve the core of Sinkies by reducing the percentage of Sinkies in the country? I have a bit of problem trying to disentangle the logic or fallacy of the arguments.

It gives the lie to the talk that the White Paper was meant to generate discussion and does not set a target of 6.9million population doesn`t it? Years down the line when things go badly they will cry and confess that they were blind-sighted.Then it will be too late.

We know which MPs to vote out in 2016. Those that are NOT pro-Singaporean should be kicked out lock, stock and barrel!

We need to see if PAP will lift the Party Whip and allow their PAP MPs to suka, suka vote.

Of course, Pro Sinkie is better. I like local born local bred. Our saviour Chen Show Mao, the only opposition scholar who can fight with scholar has spoken, the ONE who can deliver us from the abyss and misery. He showed us the WAY out.

Although the govt said they already have been doing it, but I say we should do more to attract these housewives to come out from hiding to work, like Chen said. We should increase wages to attract these people, never mind if they are landlords driving BMWs, or wives of successful businessmen, or simply housewives staying home to take care of kids. If 10% cannot, then 20% or 30% increase until these women come out.

Cost of living go up ?

SMEs kaput ?

Never mind. Not my problem. Haha

I will suggest some more in next few days. Just shoot lah, never mind one. And PAP will reject, and then we say WP got suggest but all kanna shoot down.

All we win.

If there are 1.2 million locals who are un or under employed, then why must we import all the FT, it just did not make any sense!!!

There must be a total disconnect somewhere!!!

$$$$$ must be the issue....
1) Government wants more LEVY....
2) Business wants less CPF/ Child care leave/ NS leave.
3) Business wants more for their bottom line.

We are in a DEATH TRAP!!!!

The 5.9/6.9 scenario only works in an "ANIMAL FARM", even that, needs to be peaceful in our surroundings... any recession/depression, any trouble in the neighbourhood, and ....... ITE....

Anonymous said...

$$$$$$$ surely is the issue.

Either we pass a law to mandate local businesses to a minimum wage law for local women to work, something like $4000 a month to compensate them, it is hard to attract. Else these people just stay at home. Maybe rb should do a poll how much need pay them to come out.

Businesses can argue that they will lose money and close shop. I say, just let them kaput. Some may even dare say they will pass higher costs to consumers. But that is govt problem, we will talk about that in a different time.

From higher taxes on Singaporeans.
That's where.

Firstly, the 6.9 millions is all about money and minting vote counts. Bluntly said : Power Crazy Greedy Bastard.

Secondly, you can KPKB until the cow come home, but sadly to say, the infamous toilet paper will be approved and endorsed by same "Power Crazy Greedy Bastard".

When they found that they are losing all arguments and no way out. Then as usual, out comes the infamous Party Whip. As if you people don't know ?

Pro meritocracy policies are the best.

Let the best win, be they local or foreign.

Let's stick to Lee Kwan Yew's original idea of exposing Singaporeans to the open free market of global competition, and the sweet taste of winning when you top the best in the world.

It won't happen overnight, but sow the seeds of unfettered meritocracy now, and in time the culture will change.

Sinkies so weak how to handle the competition ?

Don't talk about compete yet; here sinkies fighting about who get bigger slice of cake and crying unfair. A spoilt bunch of people.

No doubt. Extremely spoilt. And also extremely lucky -- they beat virtually every other cuntree in the world when it came to achieving "success" starting from near absolute zero as a pariah cast out from a federation. (expulsion, forced secession from the Federation of Malaya).

Extremely spoilt, but so little gratitude.

To continue on with the PAP govt (actually a bunch loyal thugs who protect because they are paid handsomely to do so) "protecting" them is unsustainable and has put the cuntree on the path of "uncompetitiveness" and "decreased productivity".

So, something has to be done.

Got comparative advantage?

i was an adult when s'pore was kicked out of the federation. s'pore certainly wasn't at point near absolute zero at that time. matilda singapore giving lky too much credit. minus a riot or two, the 60s was an enjoyable time. we had fun in those days. real fun. unlike now.

Oldman type of meritocracy; don't bluff yourself Matilda. So much concentration of brains, skills, opportunities & wealth in that familee. Who are you trying to bluff?

S'pore had always been more prosperous than surronding countries because of our strategic God-given, natural disaster-protected location in the Straits of Malacca even before LKY was born.
That is the reason the British chose Singapore to be their SE Asia HQ & RR centre, 200 years ago.

PAP is introducing new gigantic risks through extreme high %Foreigners & fluid capital which will be disastrous for Singapore economy when a real Recession comes.

Foolish to trust paper generals who are good only in controlled environment. They are shooting Singapore and Singaporeans own feet.

Of course as a boss I need to pay high wages to get quality.

Well done! Singaporean PMETs.

"SMEs kaput ?"- I agree.
SMEs are mainly owned by foreigners and employing mainly foreigners for a long time. Eliminating them is right thing. Our highly intelligent and highly well paid gov can then attract better SMEs that employ locals to take over them else we should also eliminate them.

Got fun-in-your-life?

@anon 425:

Dude, Just like you, I am an old cock. I grew up in the 60's and 70's. I remember the fun -- the long hair, the $15-20 fine for getting caught smoking ganja (pre 1973) which you could buy for around one dollar, and then go and bang your alo-stoned girlfriend (or boyfriend -- whatever floats your boat) at Changi beach, where you still could pitch a tent and camp. Damn fun lah.

Singapore was not "absolute zero" for those employed or who's businesses was doing well. For many -- they didn't even have proper sanitation. Still on septic tanks or nightsoil collection. There was over-crowding in the shop houses and kampongs -- yes, still got kampongs.

Of course it wasn't all LKy's doing. But he and his team did keep Singapore from going into civil war and with Goh Keng Swee's brilliant mind helped the development.

Of course, the Brits had already installed the mechanisms and legal structures for Singapore to go ahead in a peaceful way, which luckily, it did.

Please lah. I don't just know history. I was there and a part of it.

In the early 1970s LKY's PAP policy of stop at two was pointed out by the people especially by Doctor Toh Chin Chye that it was wrong and a ill conceived policy. But nevertheless the stop at two policy was rammed down on the people arrogantly with great disrespect for people's feelings. The stop at two policy eventually turned out to be a disaster for the city state.

When Tony Tan keng Yam was a minister of education he limited the take in for legal and medical studies in Singapore University to 300 students per each faculty. Again people raised objections to this shortsighted policy. However , just as the stop at two policy, it was carried out without any concern for the people. The policy was an utter failure for soon the city state found that there was a very great shortage of lawyers and doctors and the government was obliged to recruit foreign talents to fill up the shortage.

There had been too many failures by the PAP government to recall and this policy to import foreign population will be one in the series of many present and future failures. In the end it is always the people who will ultimately bear the brunt of the suffering from these PAP shorted sighted policies and failures.
