77 MPs voted in favour of the White Paper

The very unpopular White Paper on future population in the island was passed yesterday with 77 for, 11 nay and 1 abstained. At least two PAP MPs were not present, LKY and Inderjit Singh. PAP has 80 MPs in Parliament. 79 PAP MPs were counted, 77 +2. Who is missing? All opposition MPs and NMPs voted against except for the diplomatic Eugene Tan who chose to abstain. The house is divided with PAP against the others on this population issue.

It is clear that the only way for a PAP MP not to vote along party line is to be absent with valid excuses, like LKY and Inderjit. Those who are present in Parliament would have to vote accordingly no matter if they agree or disagree with the motion or even spoke against it. Is this enough to confirm that no PAP MP can be an independent MP, to vote according to his belief and conscience, or be his own man or woman, to take a stand against the party position?

The fate of this island having 6.9m population is sealed. We are going to get more foreigners into the country to maintain a strong Sinkie core. They are here for the good of Sinkies. ‘We are doing it for Singaporeans…’ I got goose pimples hearing these words spoken by politicians.

Talked so much and then abstained or absent - what kind of wayang is that?

The Singaporean core will be strengthened from 62% to 55% and then to 30% or less. The number is not important.

The quality of our super Leaders:
1. Mee Siam my Hum.
2. Have Whitehorses so that everyone will be treated equal.
3. Raise GST so that the poor pay less.
4. Changed to time-based Singtel phone charges so that you will pay less.
5. HDB flats are affordable, with$1,000 monthly income you can afford one.
6. Etc, etc, etc
And now the latest:
A better home for Singaporeans...with additional million more Foreigners...is good for you, so that Singaporean core is strong. IS FOR YOU.

Since OLDMAN liked to accuse and sue people for "lying" and bankrupting them; He may sue Pinkie & company.

Think about this the next time you vote PAP to "represent" you in parliament.

Still think a PAP MP is his own man?
Still think he represents you?

To push through this paper in such a hurry is sign of desperation. Something is very serious. It is not the ageing problem, not the fertility or baby problem, may not be the economic growth problem.

Thank goodness rational thinking has prevailed. This is not common when politics are concerned. Thank goodness the neurotic, fear-driven, narrow-minded out-of-date and unscientific thinking of The Herd of Sheeple has fallen to REASON -- as it should.

I am going to have a very happy CNY, as are the intelligent and rational friends I'll be celebrating with!

>> The fate of this island having 6.9m population is sealed.

It most certainly is, and I would add that let 6.9 million be just the beginning!

>> We are going to get more foreigners into the country to maintain a strong Sinkie core.

I don't know about that, all I know is more people, more awesome rocking, more goods and services, more opportunities for personal profit...and hopefully even lower taxes, on the back of more economic growth (i.e. building up the capital stock and the capital structures : Capital and its Structure - PDF, 7.7MB)

Live n let live, enjoy first.

2030 AD is far away, many will not be around and it could include political party.

As for living, who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Today it is Singapura, tomorrow it may become Matilah.

The wise will not wait, they will leave tomorrow and if not soon.

Only daft will tansi.

Don't U agree?

This white paper projected a scenario upto 2030 with population upto 6.9 million people to tackle aging population, economic growth etc. What if all these extra people brought in after settling in becoming citizens will eventually feel just the same pressures of life in Singapore in time just like any other Singaporeans, so low fertility rate etc will continue, then we will have a even bigger and possibly catastrophic problem in another 30 to 50 years down the road.

So policies must drastically change now, "change soup don't change medicine", die standing later la!

What do you think?

I think you can only set the stage for the future, then sit back and let the "spontaneous order" do its "magic".

No one can predict the future with accuracy. Low fertility is likely to be a thing of the past in that time due to the strides in medical science, and possible nano-bio engineering. Who knows?

Who knows what solutions science will have by then.

To have any more people than the land can actually support by agriculture means humans have to "hack" their environment in order to make human existence sustainable.

All modern cities are ARTIFICIAL ENVIRONMENTS because otherwise life would not be sustainable.

Singapore has "hacked" its environment quite well, and more serious "hacking" -- like land reclamation, larger capacity infrastructure, mega skyscrapers etc..

After the show in Parliament, anybody can guess what is the ending going to be. What kind of debate is that with the PAP being declared the winner all the time?

If this is not the reason why we need more opposition MPs in Parliament, I don't know what else we can do.

We need something like this that ends up screwing the 60%, then they will wake up. Yes, don't rock the boat, but it will sink all the same. Singaporeans are sunk by the PAP.

10% absenteesim from voting has to be investigated. Even during GE, most Singaporeans who love our country make it a point to vote and the % of spoilt votes is very low at 1-2%. In this case, we have a bunch of elites of 90+ people who are supposed to represent our voices. And YET, when it comes to voting for one of the most important bill, 8 of them or 10% is missing? What is this? We didn't pay your monthly allowance for you to MIA during important sessions? Do all these who MIA need to provide good reason? Stomach ache? MC?

There is nothing we can do. There is nothing effective with our voices. There is only one group of people to be blamed. The daft 60 percent.

There is only one thing we can do. Wait for 2016. And there is only one thing we should not do. Do not vote for the PAP ever again.

Hougang voters probably saw this coming and they have been doing the right thing over the years.

Lucky Tan was spot on when he said that Hougang voters knew some things that the rest of Singaporeans do not. He has been proven right.

77 people defied the wills of the 3m citizens, ignored their cries and arrogantly decided that this island should have 6.9m people. Those who have aired their displeasures to the 77 MPs need to remind the MPs who they are representing and whether they would want them to represent them again in 2016.
