Vivian Balakrishnan: ‘we are facing the crisis of our lifetime’

Hehehe, this is what Minister of Environment and Water Resources said. I am shivering in my pants. Pardon me Sir, excuse me Sir, who created this crisis of a lifetime? This crisis did not happen overnight right? This is the best run country in the world with super talented ministers and paid out of this world salary. How could they manage the country so well into a crisis of our lifetime? Now I am wondering who created this crisis? Who have been running this country for the last four or five decades? Did they not see it coming?

Do the people of this island want the same people who created this crisis to solve this crisis with another set of solutions that would create another bigger crisis in the future? By then I dunno what they will call it, a monumental crisis of several lifetime? Ya?

If there is a need for a natcon, this is it. This is the topic that affects every Sinkies. It can destroy their lives and the lives of their children and their children's children. Let this be the natcon of the people. The people are talking. The people want to tell the govt what is in their heart.

It is more like the citizens of Singapore is facing the crisis of our lifetime, with these incompetent MIWs. To these MIWs, it is always and only Population Growth = GDP Growth = Foreigners Import Growth. There are more to Economic Growth than just Population Growth.

Where are the considerations for quality of life, good jobs with fair pay, affordable healthcare, housing, transportation, education and many etc? What are the strategies and vision for social growth and development?

When a new Manager started work, he found 3 envelops in his drawer with instructions, "Open the first envelop when you face your first major problem, the second envelop when you face your second problem and finally the third when you have your third problem working in the company".

Few days into his new job he made a bad mistake and did not know how to get out of the mess. Then he remembered he had the envelops and quickly open the first one. In there was a note that says, "Blame it on the product". So he told the boss that and he was given another chance.

However, a few months went by and the new products designed by himself also did not do well and he thought he would get the sack. Then he opened the second envelop and it said, " Blame it on the economy". His boss accepted his reason and that bought him some time.

However, that only bought his so much time and when the economy turn around and his sales was still down, he was again question by his boss on his poor performance. He when to his drawer and open the third envelop hoping to find a good excuse. When he opened the envelop, the message read, "Make 3 envelops".

There is so many excuses the people in Singapore will take. PAP should start making 3 envelops now.

There is no such crisis. The usual scare tactics to make you vote for them will not work.

I heard a different version. The three envelopes thingi. First envelope said blame the your predecessor. Second envelope said blame the economy and the third envelope said make another three envelopes and start all over again. I think they used up the first two already as the last minister was fired and the global economy has been blamed. So we are in the next three envelope stage liao

But when you look at history and when you look at empirical evidence it is clear that the key to prosperity is in institutions, not in culture nor in geography. Moreover, history is also equally clear that bad institutions were in place not because of leaders’ mistakes but by design: because they played a useful political and economic role for the benefit of the politically powerful in society.
More explicitly, some types of economic institutions, which we call inclusive, provide incentives for investment and innovation and they provide a level playing field so that the majority of a nation’s population can deploy their talent. These economic institutions generate prosperity. But most societies are ruled not by ‘inclusive’ institutions but by extractive institutions, which create insecure property rights, don’t allow contracts, discourage innovation and technology adoption, and most importantly, instead of creating a level playing field, they create a very tilted playing field, advantaging a small segment of society, and sometimes even coercing people to work at low wages in occupations they shouldn’t be in, and banning them from occupations they wish to enter. We call these institutions extractive because they have been designed by the political powerful to extract resources from the majority of the population.
How are such bad institutions kept in place?
That’s where politics and political institutions come in. These extractive economic institutions are supported and kept in place by political institutions which concentrate political power in the hands of the elite so that they are able to create these economic institutions and maintain them, despite the fact that they are to the disadvantages of many in society. Without political institutions that are themselves extractive, concentrating power in the hands of the elite and putting no constraints on their exercise, extractive economic institutions would not survive. It is in this sense that we argue that prosperity is all about political institutions and politics.
Growing political inequality can pave the way for a reversal in the nature of political institutions, which is becoming a real danger for the United States today.

.....

The Soviet Union is a typical example of growth under extractive institutions, based on using available technology and state-led mobilization of resources. After the Bolsheviks took over the highly inefficient agricultural economy from the Tsarist regime and started to use the power of the state to move people and resources into industry, the Soviet Union grew at then-unparalleled rates, achieving an average annual growth rate of over 6 percent between 1928 and 1960. Though there was much enthusiasm about Soviet growth at the time, it couldn’t and didn’t last. By the 1970s, the Soviets had produced almost all the growth that could be derived from moving people from agriculture into industry, and despite various incentives and bonuses, and even harsh punishments for failure, they could not generate innovation. The Soviet economy stagnated and then totally collapsed.

Singapore has an extractive institution founded by fucking Kuan Yew. Kuan Yew-ism is unsustainable without additional inputs of labor. To prevent Kuan Yew-ism from blowing up, PAP needs ever increasing FT.

How many people wonders how Singapore grow? We grow by forcing a large segment of our self-subsistence citizen living in kampong into workers exploited by MNC in the first phase. Land Acquisition kick out many people from their house into barracks whereby there is a MNC factory next door.

Large estate like Toa Payoh, Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Jurong are build for this purpose.

This model of growth more or less persist today. After Singapore was fully industrialized, there will be no growth other than importing people. PAP style stifle innovations.

Also now, we have a big problem of ponzi CPF that is bankrupt. We need more contributors.

Like USSR, Kuan Yew-ism is going to belly up. But before it die, LHL is putting last effort to sustain this zombie on the expense of citizen.

Our future depends on whether we can quickly jolt PAP out of power, or our votes will be diluted by new citizens. 2016 is our last chance.

Hi there fellow forummers,

USA. The banks there are too big to be allowed to fail.

Singapore.
The Millionaire Ministers are too meritocratic to be allowed to fail.
SMRT also same, same.
TummySick Holdings also sama, sama.

Even if that means importing millions of sucker-new citizens into Singapore.
Singapore must survive.
Even if they have to demolish every Singaporean to do it.

To be more specific,
it is "PAP are facing the crisis of their lifetime" so let us help them to put an end to their misery by kicking them out in next election. Either they put the end to our misery by importing mass foreigners to put them back into power to create more misery for us, or we vote them out to end their misery and alleviate our misery.

It is time the daft not be come daft, the gullible not become gullible, the ignorance not become ignorance.

Why on earth do we need a NatCON on this subject? Is the PAP unable to read? They can read pple's comments, can't they? And after all these years in politics, all their hordes of grassroots people for connecting, are you telling me they can't read the ground (the so-called silent majority) either?

And so dear Viv sees another crisis? A ''crisis of a lifetime''? For who? What exactly is this crisis? You mean things have not being going swimmingly well as his kakis have been claiming? Is dear Viv calling them liars? Dear, dear me...

What does dear Viv call all the events of the 60s? The riots, the parting from Malaysia, the need to find jobs and homes for thousands? A walk in the park? Kopi session?

He and his gang have been seeing nothing but bloody crises all the time? How come? When he and his lot are supposed to be there so these crises don't keep poking up? How did This crisis come about? The boss is claiming poor vision by his govt. Is Viv baby aware he's part of that gang?

They are all starting to sound like actors in a bad soap opera, where the script is a major fail. Lawrence Wong started this rubbish, sighing about his heavy heart. Now, dear Viv and his crisis.

Viv baby, scare tactics are so last century, you know. Get with it, man, get up to date. We're into action and cursing now.

If you see a crisis, take time off from Creating bloody crises, which you and your kakis have been busy with for about 20 yrs now. Take time off and go solve the damned crisis of a lifetime or whatever.

Don't come whining to us. We have our own problems to handle. We're busy working on ways to deal with a rogue govt that's ruining our lives and country! We'd like to see its back - by 2016 latest.

I see the imminent crisis of Singaporeans is that we have became Dalits. Today, everyone is racist against Singaporeans, especially from FT Indians.

Few weeks back I went Changi business park. The whole fucking Citibank 8 storey (maybe 9) building are 100% Indians other than the janitor, as observed by me standing outside during peak hours.

While the Indians are racist against Singaporeans, especially the Chinese, we must look further at the wretch psychology of Indians. Indians actually knew they are wicked and hated themselves. They have too much pride to admit. He wish that their offspring could be a better person than them. They knew Chinese especially Singaporean Chinese has better virtue.

This is so clearly manifested that Indians try marry Chinese men or women at whatever given possibility. They hope Chinese good gene will cleanse them of their wicked genes.

Father of Vivian GD Balakrishnan and his mother late Mdm Ong Yong Sang. Vivian married a Chinese. His very pretty daughter looks 100% Chinese. I believe his daughter is very less racist. Vivian family is a good evolution example.

The Chinese are the least racist people. We give them our women or son. We do not mind. If low caste Indians try to marry high caste Brahmin, the best way is both couple commit suicide and reincarnate as the same caste. Else the whole family of low caste Indian stand a high chance to get lynch.

I do not mind our girls get fuck by Indians if it help to reduce their viciousness. But we are importing so much racist that our Chinese pussy can never heal their toxic mind now.

There are so much open racism against Singaporeans especially against the service providers. Recently I took a taxi. The taxi driver complains that FT Indians were "kwai lan". I have heard countless times such allegations that I got numb.

We are already Dalits. Maybe our daughter got to be hereditary prostitute at the next stage, when PAP open their flood gate even wider to fucking racist.

@anon 112:

On the contrary. I think the PAP read the people VERY WELL.

You have to keep the people "agitated" in the political realm...but not to the point they're on the streets throwing Molotov cocktails parliament house. That scenario is unlikely to happen because of the wealthy society.

For e.g. this business is back-ordered 40, yes, FORTY cars, the special "SGP" edition is ONE MILLION DOLLARS.

Dun pray, pray. When Singaporeans go shopping and exercise their rights to consume, the give no quarter.( Cantonese saying: mo tuck ting)

"You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before." ~ Rahm Emanuel

Remember him? He had the foulest mouth in the Obama White (Black??) House. He used to scold people openly, uses "cocksucker" and "motherfucker", agitate dissenters in the men's room whilst they're pissing... 1st class political gangster, always ready to fight, and at the time Obama's go-to guy.

When the govt tell you there is a "crisis", be prepared for very expensive "help"

Other than turning villagers into workers in industries that made money, many businessmen were making lots of money doing smugglings.

As a boy in the 50/60s, me got to see much of smuggling activities. Even in the 70s, when me was working as sales representative, smuggling was still rampant.

When Indonesia and Malaysia tightened their anti smuggling enforcements, smuggling became risky and there were much less smugglers.

Today, smuggling activities have reversed in direction, cigarettes(tobacco), fuel and other items are brought in bypassing the Authorities.

What a change in fortune.

What is WP's views on the govt proposals?

Agree or Disagree? If disagree, what do they propose we do to alleviate the problem ?

That I want to know.

/// Agree or Disagree? If disagree, what do they propose we do to alleviate the problem ?

The problem is the incompetent Pro Alien Traitors.
The solution is to vote them out in GE 2016.

There is no population problem.
There is only a PAP problem.
Or rather the problem with a PAP government.

Anonymous said...

Ok, ok agree.

Kick them out.

The ageing thing will happen, whoever is in government.

WP will be able to solve the problems ?

Anonymous said...

"The aging thing will happen, whoever is in government.
WP will be able to solve the problem?"

Why worry about whether the WP will or will not be able to solve the problem? They are not the government yet.

Kicking out the rogue PAP government is the more pressing problem right now. The rest can be solved after that. We should be more concern about letting the PAP remain in power as that will let them create more problems during the next three years.

Well said, RB.

We paid so much to this bunch of short-sighted white monkies just to create crisis for us?!

All should either have a pay-cut, or cough out the astronomical salaries paid to them over the years or step down. If not, where is the accountabilty?

Singaporean are already screaming out loud: stop influx of foreigners! Enough is Enough!

The G. has no solutions to solving our many problems (housing, transport, education, cost of living, etc etc )arising from rapidly growing population now, and the unhappy countrymen have been telling them, over and over again that they do not want further increase of outsiders in the already overcrowded small country. What is happening to our G., no ears to listen or no eyes to see?! Or simply just can't be bothered, thinking that whether we like it or not, they will still be voted to rule us?

Fellow countrymen, please do the right thing to save our beloved country from sinking. I pray hard that you know what to do in the next GE.

Dear Singaporeans.
Let's get one thing perfectly clear.

THERE IS NO POPULATION PROBLEM.

This is just another piece of PAPig propaganda.

Yes, the PAPig wants a 6.9 million population.
For what, we don't know.
They are not very transparent people.
PAPigs call it a "problem" to con us into supporting their policies.

Don't believe them.
Just as you should not believe that;
"You own you HDB flat"
"PAP is on the side of Singaporeans"

For the first time in 10 years, I'm very happy to have PM Lee as our Prime Minister.

I have never seen Singaporeans so united before.
I now have hope that maybe, just maybe, Singaporeans will really vote wisely in GE 2016.

Please, please, I hope Opposition parties will NOT contest the AMK GRC.
We want PM Lee to continue leading PAP for at least another 10 years.
His leadership gives me hope for a stronger Opposition presence in parliament.
