New Citizens Party

The PAP is the first to announce a new citizen, Dr Janil Puthucheary, as a candidate for the GE. Though he is just 3 years as a new citizen, he is no stranger to Singapore. His father, Dominic Puthucheary, was a founding member of PAP but joined the Barisan Socialis and ended up as a political prisoner. The family left to become Malaysians. Janil Puthucheary is a kind of homecoming, and a healing of political rift. The other opposition parties are also heard to be considering putting up new citizens as their candidates. This is good news as new or old citizen, they are all citizens with equal rights under the law. The better part is that there are many talents among the new citizens that are much better than the old citizens. With this abundant pool of foreign talents turned citizens, I am sure there will be enough of them to form one or two new parties to contest in the election. And being hungrier and adventurous, more entrepreneurial, in the same mould as the founding members of PAP and Barisan Socialis, they will be a great asset to the political scene. Singapore politics needs new blood and a heavy dose of fresh air to give it a new life. The staleness in the air is getting a bit nauseating when political parties need to scrap the bottom of the barrel for talents. The vibrancy, the new mindset, the never say die attitude of the new citizens should carry the country forward in the 21st Century. There is no longer the need to depend on lazy and has beens Singaporeans that are complacent and waiting for the sky to fall on their laps. Singapore will benefit from the drive of the new citizens and their enterprising spirit. NCP or New Citizens Party, maybe one or two, will be nice to have. Come on, new citizens, it is time to serve the country, to sacrifice for the country that have treated you so well.

To be honest, I am unable to grasp the thrust of your this article. I am unsure if there is sarcasm in there (as in your previous articles) or can I read it from a literal perspective.

Taking it literally, I find it rather sad that the opposition parties are inviting new citizens to its team. What is this new citizen terminology really?

A new citizen to call it badly is one who has forsaken his home country to make another country his home. Is this patriotism? Begs the question then is patriotism a pre-req for a minister. I guess it is NOT within the many "psychological tests" they undertake.

In times of trouble or where another place offers prosperity, I have little doubt he will send his family home first and wait till the last minute before fleeing (Yes, he will not be called up by SAF since he has not done any national service!)

Is this someone you want as an MP. If so, pity on you. You have just given up your birthright to an usurper. Too many stupid Singaporeans, perhaps the new citizens will also add some new better genes to native Singaporeans.

Beans could be practicing pragmatic patriotism anywhere that give them the best of what they could get or be given. It could also mean that the place gives him/her the greatest opportunity to contribute.

'Birth' and 'Origin' have little or no meaningful connotation to those who practice PRAGMATISM. Whatever and wherever work best become the choice and preferred. Many are prepared discard their souls for materialistic pursuits and attainments, especially those living in a hotel liked place.

Pragmatism has a very positive interpretation to an individual and that is he/she not only seek best of everything, he/she also avoids any danger and seek safety whether or not that makes him/her a hypocrite, betrayer or a traitor.

In a land where nationhood had died at conception, me believes this article contains pragmatic value.

patriot

There is a term given to Singaporeans who left for greener pastures. Can't remember what it is. Just slip my mind.

Goh Chok Tong calls them 'quitters'.

And at best, they are pragmatists.

So in short, native Singaporeans who leave are quitters.

New citizens are not quitters and instead can become kingmakers.

Welcome to the new Singapore.

Pity the foolish Singaporean.

Actually Singaporeans who have left have become foreign talents in their new countries. I hope their new countries will give them the same opportunities we are giving to our new citizens/quitters from other countries.

Our govt is so pragmatic and generous. Must be good for Singapore and Singaporeans. It must be, with Singaporeans becoming duller and more complacent and also poor in money making skills.

What about a New Citizens Armed Forces for those who did not serve NS? What do these new citizens know about S'pore that they want to serve us or is it just about the money? Your guess is as good as mine. Are we that lacking in talents?

If you drop the word "new", all you are left with is "citizen".

As I have said before: just because your father and mother fucked at MacRitchie Reservoir, and you happened to be in Singapore when your mother squeezed you out of her chee bye, doesn't give you any more special rights than a foreigner who has been granted Singapore citizenship.

So fuck you and your xenophobic emotions.

All citizens are entitled to vote and to be voted for if they decide to run for government and step up to the plate.

I don't normally support the PAP, but I'll be fair and give credit where credit is due -- this is a wonderful sign.

This move signals a more open and inclusive democracy, but people "still no-satisfy"... they want wealth, nice HDB, free education, free this and that, cheap food ai pee,ai chee, ai tua liap ni

Wake up you silly motherfuckers!

Singaporeans who "quit" but still use the benefits of being Singaporean:

Hotel Dwellers

And fuck Goh Chok Tong, once again.

Go ahead, pray all you want. Pray like the Pope pray like the Imam...pray to your balls for they have "magical" powers to alter reality.

Let's see if your prayers work :-)

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

You don't pray pray. There are extremists everywhere : )

What Goh Chok Tong said something, he always tends to choke himself. I understand that his own daughter is also a 'quitter'.

And Dr Seet Ai Mee just came out to criticise the man for scoring an own goal, and leading to her defeat by Ling How Doong in Bukit Gombak, by dragging up the hand washing incident during an election speech.

Haha redbean, I can see the extremists on your blog.

Madmen more than extremists.
