A brilliant American analysis on rift in China leadership

A REUTER report quoting Pentagon official’s comment about the maiden flight of China’s stealth fighter aircraft is simply brilliant. It said that Hu Jintao and other top Chinese leaders did not know about the test flight, implying that they were kept out of the loop. So there is possibility of a rift in the Chinese leadership, between the civilian leaders and the top brass in the military. I am impressed with the quality of the analyst and the value of this report. The readers must now all believes that the Chinese leadership will soon fall apart and a coup is taking place. My simpleton layman observation is that Hu Jintao and his comrades were too busy with their preparation for Gate’s visit and all the briefings they were given were forgotten, or they did not pay any attention to them. Or perhaps the reports were all on their tables but they got no time to read as they were thinking of how to make Gates happy during his visit to China. So no miscommunication. Just a slip of the mind, or too busy. I think my analysis is equally brilliant in a way. But the Americans and the western media can keep on hoping that China will collapse or a leadership struggle will take place and breaking up China like the Soviet Union. PS. This American view is news worthy woah.

There'll always be "differences of opinion" between the military and political classes.

Whether this is the case in China now is uncertain.

...but rest assured it will happen -- on more than one occasion, (hopefully) with violent and extremely entertaining results.

One can only hope ;-)

This is no different than the gossips in the kopitiam.

Sometimes there is truth in kopi tiam gossip.

On its face, every "claim" is just a claim. What is needed is irrefutable evidence.

People who have power rarely see eye to eye with each other. When you have a state, you get factions and pockets of power.

If you think that the Chinese are somehow a "special kind of human" who are immune to disagreements and fighting over power, then you have been sleeping through the on-going history lesson of FACINATING and ENTERTAINING human nature ;-)

I don't diagree with the competition for power. But this test flight is something that there is no need to hide by the military. I am quite sure that it is something they will want to glorify as a national achievement.

To believe that Hu Jintao was not informed is, uh, what shal I say? It is like George Bush claiming that he did not know what is going on in Guantanamo.

Am I the only lucky one to have heard from the British Broadcasting Corporation at FM 88.9 that the PRC had purportedly(purposely) tested the stealth fighter during Gate's visit to show the Americans that China could be at par militarily with the US. This aside, I believe Premier Hu has full confidence in the Chinese Armed Forces and is informed to the last minutes of all important issues. And there is no need for him(President Hu) to boast to the world as most other leaders are proned to do.
